Benelli’s M4 Tactical 12-gauge shotgun was designed in 1998 to meet the exacting performance and durability specifications of the United States Marine Corp. This unique, auto-regulating gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun has been deployed around the world and remains the combat service shotgun of the U.S. Joint Services. The new M4 H2O Tactical is an enhancement of this proven shotgun platform, one which adds a Titanium Cerakote finish for increased corrosion resistance and durability.
Widely regarded as one of the best firearm coatings on the market today, the Cerakote finish on the new Benelli M4 H2O Tactical is proven to protect firearms from salt spray corrosion, even at elevated temperatures. The company’s extensive testing showed no corrosion to Cerakote-coated panels after 3,500 hours of continuous, indirect salt spray inside of a 95-degree (Fahrenheit) chamber. In addition to corrosion resistance, Cerakote’s impact resistance testing showed an impact strength measurement of 160 inch-pounds, the maximum rate the impact tester can measure.
Titanium Cerakote finish is added to the barrel, receiver and magazine tube of the new Benelli M4 H2O Tactical, while the bolt is coated in a black Cerakote finish. In addition to exterior coatings, critical internal components are also coated, further enhancing the shotgun’s corrosion resistance and durability.
Featuring 5+1 capacity, an 18.5-inch barrel, ghost-ring sights and a standard Picatinny rail, the new Benelli M4 H20 Tactical shotgun is available with a black synthetic pistol grip stock. It has an overall weight of 7.8 pounds and an overall length of 40 inches. The shotgun also comes with a standard modified choke.

Benelli’s patented Auto-Regulating Gas-Operated (A.R.G.O.) system is a simple, self-cleaning, piston-driven action.
The A.R.G.O. system is a unique, short-stroke, dual-piston design developed for the M4 Tactical shotgun in 1998 for the U.S. Marine Corps. It was later adopted as the U.S. Joint Services combat shotgun—and remains so today.
- The gas port is located just forward of the chamber, where the gases are hotter and cleaner. This results in less fouling and more reliable cycling.
- Pistons push directly against the bolt, for fast operation and minimum vibration.
- There are no connecting linkages or heavy action bars under the forend, which add weight.
